What is Education Other Than At School?

Education other than at school (EOTAS) means the education or special educational provision of children or young people outside of a formal educational setting.

At times things can go wrong, and parent carers may need to consider their rights, as well as making a complaint, appealing decision or seeking mediation to help their CYP get their needs met. When sign posting on this topic, it may also be necessary to add in some basic advice such as:

  1. Making sure any meetings have a written record shared between all parties including the Parent Carer.
  2. Asking for a copy of a settings complaints policy.
  3. Encouraging the Parent Carer to keep their own records and when making complaints provide solutions as well as details on what has gone wrong.
  4. Addressing any complaint with a setting to the head teacher, and Chair of Governors.
  5. Encouraging Parent Carers to look at a school Policy/ SEN Information Report.
